The East Escarpment of Offham-Hill, 2018

A passing observation by nineteenth century geologist and palaeontologist Gideon Algernon Mantell forms the contextual basis for a new series of photographs that investigate and present the loss of a once prosperous chain of industry to what is now a tranquil local landscape. The chalk pits, funicular railway, and inland wharf that were once active on the presented sites, are now forgotten history lingering in the minds of those who seek it out.
